Windows 8 error the user profile cannot be loaded
I have read through a number of other threads reporting the same problem. Most threads indicate a need for recovery media. Does this seem to be the only way to rectify the problem? An unspecified error occurred during System Restore.
I am surprised that there are only those two restore points and they are recent. Unlock the drive and try again. A required drive partition is missing". I don't know if it ever had the partition to begin with. We disabled this troubleshooter because it won't run on this PC.

I am holding off from restoring Windows which, if I understand that process correctly, will wipe out everything else from the HD.
