Supreme edition darth vader helmet review
The pic is actually the back of the undersuit. You can see the front in the next pic. Here I pull out the outer-cape right and put it next to the inner-cape. And you can see the front of the undersuit with the chest box attached covered in protective foam Wouldn't be complete without a pic of the "how to get dressed" instructions. There is no way you can get this costume on by yourself And now that I have it all unpacked. Here are some pics of details on the Helmet.
I was really surprised with how shiny the helmet is. I was expecting a rather dull finish. The Helmet does come with the "Breathing" sound device attached and ready to go.
In this pic I wanted to show how Rubies opted to do the dual-tone on the Vader mask. Instead of using paint, they just changed the texture to reflect light differently, giving the look of the lighter Gunmetal coloring. Some pics I took today out in the sun. I noticed when I got it outside that the Black plastic gave off a bit of a brown hue. That will hopefully be fixed when I paint it and get the correct blue hue. Last night, before I went to bed I spent some time polishing the Helmet.
It came out even shinier. I'm a little dissapointed that the Helmet has some deformity to it. Not only the neck flare, but the whole helmet seems to be twisted. The cloak is an OK piece that is really neither bad nor good. It seemed a little long around the feet, but not too bad. It's also made from polyester. I believe most of the people with st quality costumes probably use wool. I tried on the belt next, and it turned out being my second least-favorite part of the costume after the cod.
The belt itself is rather poorly made. It's essentially a strip of that foamy material with a small plastic belt buckle attached to backpack straps. The belt boxes are made out of plastic and light up along with the chestbox but I didn't put batteries in them. They are made of plastic and look rather toyish I did remember to flip both of them over, however. I also had trouble fitting this around my small hips.
Quite frustrating. The belt along with the codpiece definitely get a thumbs-down in my book. I'm eager to replace both of them. After the belt, I tried on the cape. The cape is also made of nylon, and is very large. I emphasize the "very" in "very large. I was afraid to walk backwards because I might trip over it I almost did once. It attaches to the shoulder armor via hook-and-eye near the chain on the chestpiece.
The cape tended to come undone from the eyes from time to time, which might explain why it was dragging on me. The cape really isn't all that bad, it just seems rather long, and the way it hooks onto the costume needs work I think the attachment points actually need to be moved. The material is also incorrect if you want to be technical about it. I put on the gloves next. Not really much to say about the gloves.
They're black pleather with oversized flaring gauntlets. They're not very screen accurate, but whatever. There's not much to say about these. I actually have a duplicate pair of these that I got at the party store a year ago, but they're slightly damaged from intense lightsaber duels. I intentionally saved the "best" part of the costume for last.
I think that's a good thing, because I don't know how I would've gotten the rest of the costume on while wearing that helmet. The helmet gets a lot of flack for not being screen accurate, and it's understandable, but it's really not too terribly bad. The worst part about the helmet by far IMO is the lenses. They're clear plastic, and they do fog up rather quickly.
Even without the fog, it's nearly impossible to see anything out of them. Your field of vision is tiny, and they're really not much clearer than a plastic grocery sack.
